I am trying to identify the Native American tribe my great grand stepfather by marriage may have belonged to. At the loss of a child, he wore a red bandana around his head and performed a ceremony. He appeared in Native American full dress at a Native American picnic on stage. Can anyone tell by the dress what tribe he might have belonged to.

He lived in the Escondido, CA 1875 - 1910, and then moved to Los Angeles area there after.
He indicated his birth date as being a special date of July 4, 1875. Census records indicated he may not have come into the US until 1898.
Would this date be of importance to Indians in the San Diego, Ca area other than being the nation's birthday in 1875?
