Val,
This forum could very well be quite the appropriate forum for researching your ancestry. From what I've read, many of the participants here are not finding sustainable tribal connection to confirm the family stories about Native Americans.Going back as far as the earliest years of colonial Virginia, many of those considered renegades by the contacted Native American societies were ethnicly mixed offspring who pursued parity with whichever progenitor had a history with the invading settlers. Most tribal groups had a tradition of adoption which did not regard skin color or ethnicity.Throughout the history following the Eastern Hemisphere invasions, these adopted influences caused compromises among the indigenous groups with remnants seperating to pursue culturally blended practices such as patrilinial structured families as opposed to the matrilinial structure common among the Native Americans.
