Hello,
I am very excited to read your message because we are related, must be first cousins once removed. My g-grandfather is Frederick Ahlers who married Lizzie Hunt and lived in Reese River near Austin. My husband and I visited Austin last April and had a great time. We located many of the family in the Austin cemetery and we were pretty sure we located the family home, a large brick house. Your father must have been my grandmother's brother. My grandmother was Helena Hess Ahlers Metzler Matthiessen. She was named after Helena Hess, (you mentioned the Hesses in your message). my grandmother said Helena Hess was her "Foster Mother".
I have a lot of old documentation on the family that was given to my grandmother and would be willing to share with you. I have a very faded picture of the marriage of Fred and Lizzie.
I live in Hillsboro, Oregon. My father was Kenneth Metzler, Helena's yougest child, he was born in 1911 and passed away two years ago.
