I wish to contact anyone with any knowledge of John AHERN Born 1836 in Mallow. Co.Cork. This is all the information I have.
John was born to Michael Ahern (landlord) & Elizabeth White of Mallow Co.Cork. At the age of 16 he sailed to Port Phillip (Melbourne) on the ship "Peru" arriving on December 10th 1852. According to the passenger list he declared his occupation "Gentleman", furthermore he was unaccompanied by family. John eventually settled in Rushworth where he became a succesful gold-miner, marrying in 1859 & having 4 chidren.
It would be reasonable to assume that John had brothers & sisters, however no reference to any of them appear on any documents found to date. There is a possibility that other members of the family left Ireland & travelled to the USA, but there is no evidence to support this.
If anyone has any information concerning this family I would ask them to contact me.
