My Cumming family lived in Manhattan in the 1800 time period. Last confirmed ancestor in my line was Dr. George Cumming, Manhattan physican 1802-1829, who md Margaret Gallager 1803. George was born in NC abt 1770; before or after that his family had land in SC and GA and about 1790 George removed to County Down, Ireland (Newry, I believe) to claim inherited land, where he had a family, took part in the Great Rebellion of 1798 and left in 1802, leaving behind his children, as it appears their mother had died during childbirth in 1802 aboard ship as this family was planning to sail for NY. George's children must have been raised in County Down and upon adulthood, came to NYC: sons Hance, John 'Chambers' and Thomas, born 1794, 1802 and 1796 respectively, possibly a brother William, and possibly sisters Sarah and Eliza Anne. I believe George may have had a brother, Thomas who md a Sarah--Thomas was also born in NC. Thomas & Sarah, George was a close relative, I believe, to Fortescue Cumming, from Newry who also came to NYC in 1803, then removed to LA. I would very much like to link up with members of this family.
