Hi Carol,

How are you doing? I am back at work in dear old Blighty so have a little less free time to do research at the moment.

That said I visited the London Guildhall last month where they keep a lot of documents relating to firms in the City.

Amongst their vast collection were some papers on Agassiz & Son, the company founded by David Louis Agassiz when he emigrated from Switerland to England in the late 18th century. It included his account book and some early copies of his will. It showed that he kept in touch with many of his Swiss relatives even after decades of living in England. I'll fish out my notes and let you know of anything that was particularly interesting.

What sort of things have you been finding out?

All the best,
Alex

P.S. My e-mail address is now alex.jacob@fd.com.
