Hi John,
I am lost have contacted Mandy, she can`t help.
I did know something of the history of the Hookes and the Pembertons.
My grandmother was a Hookey, I think the spelling changed with the accent.. As my mother always said Hook with an E.
Not sure how they quite connect and at what point the spelling changed.
The part I am stuck on for the past year or so, my grandfather went back more directly to the Agar-Ellis family.
I have found a 1st cousin once removed.
I had the certificate but did know who he was.
It was a marriage between
John Ellis Whitby Wright Ewins.
and Elizabeth Essenhigh. (1874)
They where my 2 times great grandparents.
Father was John Ewins occupation gentalman.
Though he could have been Ellis as well.
A Emily Ewins signed the register as well.
My great grandmother was refered to as just Ellis
On my Great Uncles birth certificate Elizabeth Ellis.
She married a Smith..
The Smiths go back to Smiths of York and Killing hill.
The Lukers are in there as well by different spellings.
Have you any clues.
