I read on this forum that the Aflague name is French. I'd like to read more information on how this information was derived.
Although it sounds like French Af'la'gweee...there are many Guamanian names with the same phonetics such as Gogue, Atoigue, Taitague, and the list goes on....
My unscientific thought on this name is that it is a derivative of the Chamorro word Afa'lagwe (sic) which means to quickly react....
I would think that the Aflague name originated from Guam.
About the King of Truk story. I was told that it was my grandfather's brother that went on a journey to Truk, and was a governor of the island. As a result, he stayed there where he ended up fathering children there. One of the children is named Jack Aflague, once working with the Chuuk Visitor's Bureau.
I hope this provides even more information on this issue. If anyone has more information about this discussion, please let me know.
