Hello Stefan
I have spent some time playing with this and, in the absence of any other, more solid data, you are probably right. I always thought John Affleck to have been born in Stobo, just down the road from Drumelzier, in 1743 but there is no record of it that I have been able to access.(Of course, Stobo was not a parish until 1671, so that may be the problem but anyway.....) The Mr and Mrs Auchinleck from Drumelzier theory too, while not disproved, has little to support it. So your John Fleck, born Drumelzier in 1743, is probably correct. His dad was Robert Fleck and is probably that Robert Fleck born at Douglas, Lanarkshire back in 1694. And his parents? Well they are listed as Mongo Fleck and Margaret Broun but are also listed as Mungo Afflect and Margaret Brown. And there are various other Mungo Afflecks, Afflecke's and the ilk in Douglas at that time. So there you go. Many thanks. Regards,
Colin Affleck
