Am I a Simpson or a Milford b.1946
I was raised by a terrific family near Akron, OH and never knew I was adopted until I was 60 yrs.old and taking care of my only remaining family member - my adoptive mom. She passed away and I have very little information except the limited report afforded me by the children's placement organization who handled my birth and adoption.. My birth mother's name - according to the birth certificate I was able to get from the state of Ohio - Sarah Simpson abt 20 yrs old at my birth, she was born abt 1925. A few facts that are fairly certain- I have an older half brother (about 67 or 68)born in 1943 either in Akron or in South Carolina, Georgia, Tenn. area. Sarah reported that she was born in Pelzer, SC into a family of approx 6 or 7 siblings. Her father was a farmer (sweet potatoes) She had a younger brother who was in the service in 1945-46. She reported that an older sister and brother had helped her move to Akron and then they returned to their home. She lived as a boarder in Akron with a family who owned a home near her employment. There are conflicting reports as to whether she was actually married, but she went by the name of Sarah L. Milford. She claimed she had run away to get married in about 1940 but that the marriage was difficult so she separated from Mr. Milford in 1943 and moved to Akron. She placed my 1/2 brother in a child care boarding home. She worked at BF Goodrich Rubber Co. and visited my brother on weekends. She became pregnant again and gave birth to me early in 1946. She named me Robert Milford although Milford is not my birth father. I don't know what my brother's first name is but I assume that his last name is Milford. My birth mother said she wanted to take my brother and return home after she gave birth to me and had released me for adoption. I dont know if she left the Akron area or not but looking in the Akron City Directory 1945-46 found her at the boarding address given on my birth certificate and the next edition of the directory did not list her. My birth mother would be abt 85 yrs old now if she is living. My hope is that if the surnames she gave were true, that there is a chance I might find her and/or my brother.
It seems there are many Milfords in the SC area who are searching for their roots. I'm hoping those same Milfords might be willing to help me by sharing any more current information they know that could help me find my family- either the Milfords or the Simpsons. I just want the chance to honor my birth mother and shake the hand of my brother -if they would feel the same. I would like my 2 daughters and 4 grandsons to know the rest of their family. Thank you
