Jessica, The NC Birth Index are for those persons who were born to their natural birth parents and have not been adopted. I had a cousin who was born in 1964 in Davidson Co., NC and she was adopted by her step-father and took his last name. The original birth record for her was sealed by the court system in Davidson Co. and she has to have a logical reason to have the record extracted, reviewed by the court system and then she had have it. It involves going thru red tape just to find it. I was born in 1990, but my father did not claim me, so they sealed my original birth records and the only copy of my birth certificate was given to my mom when I was born. She has it put up and I have to go to the Guilford Co., NC deeds office to get further information on the certificate, since my father did not sign it. He said that I was not his and refuses a DNA test. Since my father is not on my birth certificate, I am not listed in the NC Birth Index. You will need to contact the Register of Deeds in the county of which you were born to find out further information on your certificate. If you were born in Randolph or Guilford Counties, I can go myself and look it up for you. I live in Randolph Co., but I travel to Guilford Co. quite frequent since my ancestors are buried there and I need their records. I hope this helps you. If you need further information, assistance or anything, just let me know. Bryson Notify Administrator about this message?
