Mary Viola Hurst-McCormack I am searching for the identity of my grandmother, Mary Viola "Ola" HURST (her birth name) -McCORMACK (her adopted name) who was "given" to the John and Martha McCormack family between 1900-1910. Please help solve her mystery... I am looking for ANYONE who may have information about the birth family of the two "Hearse" girls who were living with the John and Martha McCormack family in 1910, in Stilwell, Oklahoma. The John McCormack family migrated from Stilwell to Tulsa, Oklahoma between 1910-1920, my grandmother Ola apparently moved along with them. By 1920, she and my grandfather Lem Fraser were married and living near the McCormacks in Bixby, Tulsa County, OK. Some of the McCormacks lived in Weleetka, in Okfuskee County, as well, and my grandparents also lived there for a time. Later the Lemuel and Ola (Hurst-McCormack) Fraser family lived in various places: Salem, McIntosh County, OK; Dustin, Hughes County, OK; Coalton, Grayson, Henryetta, Hoffman, Spelter City, all in Okmulgee County, OK. I am trying to prove, or disprove, that Ola and Annie were members of the following family, therefore I would like to contact descendants or friends of: John M. MAYFIELD and Tennessee Ann WHORTON Mayfield; Francis Marion "Frank" or "F.M." HURST and Amanda Emaline MAYFIELD Easterday Hurst; George Sidney HURST and 1) Bertha H. (Maiden name Unknown); or 2) Annie Lou SANDERS; John M. Mayfield b.abt.1840 AR m.Tennessee Ann Whorton b.abt.1843 AR, had nine children. The John M. Mayfield family lived in Washington and Benton Counties, AR. Their children were: 1) Sarah E. Mayfield m. Ambrose McGarrah; 2) Nancy J. Mayfield m. 1) Henry Yates, 2) James Martin; 3) William Isaac Mayfield m. 1) Lilly Jame Kimberling, 2) Nellie S. Kimberley; 4) Amanda Emaline Mayfield m. 1) Easterday, 2) Francis Marion Hurst 1891 in Johnson County, AR; 5) Marion F. Mayfield m. Norpha Matthews; 6) Lucinda C. Mayfield m. Spencer Clinton?; 7) Lafayette M. Mayfield m. 1) Ida (unknown), 2) Mahalia Mae Hard; 8) Joseph Green Mayfield; 9) Martin Luther Mayfield I believe that it is possible that Amanda is my great-grandmother. In 1900 she and Frank were living in Esculapia Twp, Benton County, AR with four children: Finis, George S., Maggie, and Viola M. (my grandmother?). According to Hurst family stories, it is believed that Amanda died before 1910. In 1910 Frank is listed a widower, living in Johnson County with his brother- and sister-in-law, James T. and Nancy J. MARTIN, none of Frank's children are with him, but George S(idney) is living nearby with Manda and Nancy's brother, Layfayette "Fate" Mayfield and his wife Ida. What happened to Frank and Manda's daughters? Did they go to live with friends (the John and Martha McCORMACKs in Stilwell, Adair County, OK)? Did John and Martha list them as their adopted daughters in the 1910 U.S. Federal Census? Maggie HURST b.abt.1895 AR = Annie HEARSE b.abt.1897 AR? Viola M. HURST b.abt.1898 AR = Ola HEARSE b.abt.1900 AR? I am hoping that the descendants of the persons listed here will have information which will help me solve the mystery of my grandmother's identity.
