JOHN L TATE ANY CONNECTION Obituaries The Purcell Register (405) 527-2126 Purcell, OK -- Dr. James Tate Funeral services for Dr. James Tate,82, of Purcel1 were held Oct. l 8, 2005 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell with his grandchildren, the Rev. Liz Tate and the Rev. Kris Tate, officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. Dr. Tate died Oct. 16, 2005 in Purcell. He was born Sept.13,1923 in Hector, Ark., the fifth of six children of Oda Autry Tate and Maude Emma Voss Tate. He was reared on a farm nearWynnewood. Dr. Tate married Virginia Pearl Price of Oklahoma City March 7, 1942 in Oklahoma City. Nearlyayearaftertheyweremarried,he joined the U.S. Army and served hs country overseas during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1945, the Tates made their home in California for the next 17 years. In the early 1950s Dr. Tate received a call from the Air Force wanting him to re-enlist during the Korean Conflict. He was assigned as an instructor in aircraft maintenance for three years. In 1957, they moved to Memphis, Tenn., and in 1960 he graduated from the Southern College of Optometry. That same year they moved to Purcell where he owned and operated his own business, Purcell Vision Clinic, for nearly 42 years. He retired in 2002. Dr. Tate was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia Tate, July 24, 1997; two brothers, P.M. Tate of Purcell and Dr. John L. Tate of Ardmore and one sister, Inez Chaney of Florida. Survivors include one son, Gary Tate and his wife, Earla, of Purcell; one daughter, Dede Page and her husband, Ron, of Purcell; five grandchildren; one brother, Hobart H. Tate of Yukon; one sister, Helen Fox of Oklahoma City and two sisters-in-law, Ruby Tate of Midwest City and Junita Ellington of Roseville, Calif. Pallbearers were Jay, Johnny and Parker Tate, Jeff Page, Colt Allison, Don Goelz and Christopher and Gary Hayes. Honorary pallbearers were Heath McInerney, Jimmy Hudson and Cammie and Cindy Hayes.
