My gggrandfather (Andrew Gaylor) and his twin were brought to the United States from Spain about 1824-1830. Their parents were assassinated in Spain. They were split up, one going to the Gaylors in Maryland and the other to a family out west. All this was kept quiet until 1945, when my mother's cousin tried to do a genealogy on our family. My ggrandmother spilled the beans. But when this cousin asked my gggrandfather's only living son (Clarence Gaylor) about the Spanish thing, he said to let sleeping dogs lie. This same son filled out my gggrandfather's death certificate, and listed the "parents" section as unknown. We don't buy this. I doubted the whole story until I recently saw a picture of my ggrandfather(Edward Gaylor). He is as Spanish as you can get. A man from Wisconsin showed up in the 1840's asking questions about our family. My mom's uncle was a police officer and was naturally suspicious and told the man our family was none of his business. So, now I have to wonder if the twin was from Wisconsin. Our family looks like two unrelated families; half with light skin, and the other half with dark skin. The Gaylors lived in Washington County, Maryland until the early 1900's when some moved to Washington, DC. I am looking for my gggrandfather's parents so that I can start looking for adoption records, if they exist. At this time I am waiting on a death certificate of Andrew's sister (Lavina Row). If anyone has a similar story of a relative born about 1824-1830 from Spain, I'd appreciate it if you would contact me. Any other help anyone can give me would be appreciated also. Thanks.
