I cannot locate John Herbert's father, Robert Alexander, in 1920, either. He died in 1932 and is there in Natchitoches Parish, LA, in 1910 and 1930. I suspect that John Herbert's home base was with him in 1920, as that is where he was in 1917/1918 when he completed his draft registration form. At that time he was working in Hornbeck in nearby Vernon Parish LA.
