Enlisted in Co. C, 17th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 25 May 1861; discharged on 11 November 1862.
He applied for a pension #63579416 January 1888.
His widow, Sarah A. Adle, applied for pension #50438309 March 1891.

Mrs. Sarah A. Adle, one of the oldest residents of Knox county and grandmother of Mrs. Will BOUTELLE of this city passed away at the home of her grandaughter, Mrs. E. A. ALLEN of West South Street early this morning at the ripe old age of ninety-three. Death was due to a general breakup of the system due to her extreme old age. The deceased was well known throughout the county of which she had been a resident for over fifty years. Mrs. Adle was born near Oswego, New York, in the year 1818. She is the widow of Ephraim Adle a veteran of the Civil War. They came West in the early fifties, locating first at Canton, Illinois, and soon after moving to Maquon in this county. Mrs. Adle was the mother of twelve children only three of whom are living; Mrs. Jas. L. BURKHALTER, who died in 1893, being one of her daughters. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Adle resided with her daughter Mrs. Ross MOORE of Maquon until the latters death nearly two years ago when she came to this city to make her home with her grandaughter Mrs. Will BOUTELLE, until a few months ago when she tookup her residence with her daughter, Mrs. E. A. ALLEN of this city. The aged lady retained her faculties to a marked degree and was able to give many interesting reminiscences at the early history and development of Knox County. Mrs. Adle was present at the Lincoln Douglass debate in this city and had the pleasure of shaking hands with President Lincoln. The deceased was able to see and read without the aid of her glasses and her other faculties were keenly preserved. The funeral will be held in the Maquon M. E. Church, Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Maquon Cemetery.
