Deena, I think I have figured out the answer to your question, but by reading some of your other posts, I think you may already have an idea of the answer to your question. So I probably have come to the same conclusion as you. That being that this Jesse Adkins was half brother to Nellie's father William, thus making him her uncle. I know you already know about Joshuas two marriages. The William in Joshuas household matches age wise to Nellie's father. On 1880 census was 8 yrs. old, 20 yrs later on the 1900 census he was listed as 29 yrs. So that is in keeping with the right age. I really don't have anymore proof than figuring it out from the census,but I really think this sounds right. Hope I was of some help.
