Hello Deena,I read that book, too. It's interesting to note that the book you are referring to has to do with a Plains tribe, rather than one pertaining to an Eastern one, as that is what the Adkins family descendants are looking for. I would suggest that you recommend a book or other documents that may be of value to them, such as the Cherokee Rolls, History of West Virginia, and such things as Bible Records, etc. I don't find it necessary to attack anyone who is simply looking for their ancestors. I certainly hope you aren't the type of person who yells obscenties out the window when you pass a cemetery with people walking around looking at the headstones! Hmmm, Beckman. Are you in any way related to the Beekman/Beakman/Bateman families of Pike County, Ohio? I am :-) and am very proud of this heritage, also. Many of my relatives are Native American and many were Puritans. I feel lucky indeed to have such a diversity in my background. One of my other "famous" relatives was Jack dempsey, the boxer. In his autobiography, DEMPSEY, he writes of life in the hills of West Virginia, of his Cherokee AND Jewish heritage. I also am descended from Rachel Soloman, Jack's great grandmother, who was Jewish and proud of it. You must never forget the times and locations these people lived in. It is very important in unlocking the personal past. Sincerely,Beverly McClanahan
