I am very interested by your query. All of the ADERHOLDs (variously spelled) in the South descend from one man, Frederick
William ADERHOLD (b. 1748), who came from Prussia with his wife and eldest two sons about 1773 and settled first in York,
PA. He fought in the Revolutionary War, then moved to the Lincolnton, NC, area, where he died in 1806-07. There have been
other ADERHOLD immigrants to the U.S., but as far as we know, they/their descendants stayed in the Northeast or moved
westward.
Having worked extensively on this family during the compilation of "The ADERHOLD/T Collection," put out by our cousin Bill
CASH of Denver, CO, in 1997, I'm very curious about your Jane Margaret because I didn't recognize her offhand and can't place
her marriage. The Carroll Co, GA, connection suggests she probably fits into the line of Frederick William's middle surviving son,
John George ADERHOLD (1772-1830's), who happens to be my ancestor; my grandfather was born in Carroll Co. and the family
moved to the Columbus, GA, vicinity when he was a boy.
According to family notes and oral tradition, John George had a daughter named Margaret who married a McGUYER, but we
don't have documentary confirmation of this. We believed that she was born between 1800 and 1810, but if born 1814--per your
information--she would certainly fit into John George's 1830 census household (there are two females who are not accounted
for). I find no further data on her.
I would be interested to know your connection to her and what you might know of her family connections/descendants. Do you
know in what county she married Lemuel/Samuel?
John George's elder brother, John Conrad ADERHOLD lived in SC for a time before settling in Franklin Co. in the northeast
corner of Georgia; some of his descendants still live in that area today. Their younger brother, Jacob, stayed in the Lincoln Co.
area of NC. He had twelve children, most of whom also stayed there, but four of them went to northeast Alabama as the Native
Americans were being forcibly removed via the Trail of Tears. Most of the ADERHOLD (ADDERHOLD, ADERHOLT,
ADERHOLDT) families in Alabama today come down from one of these children of Jacob. John George still has descendants in
the Carroll Co. area of GA, including across the state line in AL, and some of his people later moved further into the state, but
none as early as 1840 that I know of.
Although some other explanation is remotely possible, I think it's quite likely that your Jane Margaret is a daughter of John George
and his wife Margareth HASSELBERGER. I look for any further clues about the connection and let you know what I can come
up with.
