Erna Murray Kelley, aged 92, died peacefully in her sleep in Christian Care Nursing Center in Mesquite, TX on January 27, 2008. Born on September 23 in Lake Wilson, MN, Erna grew up on a farm in Murray County. She was fouth in a family of five children; the daughter of William and Henrietta Aderhold. Erna graduated from high school in Lake Wilson at 16, attended teachers' training, and taught in a one-room school close to Slayton until she was able to attend nursing school. She enjoyed a long career as a public school nurse, first in Lincoln, NE, and then in Illinois. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack, who passed away in 1957 and her son, Michael in 1960. Erna married James A. Kelley in 1967 and moved to Dallas. She attended Lake Ridge Bible Church, where she developed countless friends and taught Sunday school. She became an avid garden clubber and became a certified judge of horticulture displays. In addition, she developed considerable skill as an oil painter, winning competitions and selling paintings. As she grew older, she had a knack for listening to the concerns of younger people, which kept her surrounded by them. She loved her friends and her children and grandchildren with a devoted and accepting love. She left imprints on many lives.

Erna is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Murray Walker and husband, Dan Larkin; Julie Thomas and husband, Rich; granddaughter, Molly Walker Wilson and husband, Matthew; Eve Gardner and her husband, Lance, Andrew Lloyd Thomas and Jack Larkin and his wife, Bobbie, and great grandchildren, Sophia and Adalyn Wilson, and Grayson and Hayden Gardner and baby due in June.

A memorial service to celebrate Erna's life was held at Lake Ridge Bible Church on Saturday, February 9th at 11 am. Eulogies were given by family members. The congregation sang Erna's favorite hymns. Paster Larry Murray spoke of his friendship with Erna and Rev. Roger Raymer, at Erna's request, preached from her Scofield bible.
