Re: Wiley D. Aday (b. 7 Dec 1862 ARK - 17 Oct 1902 TN)(His name is spelled variously ADAY, ADA, ADY.) Wiley D. Ada's mother's name was Judia Ann BAUCUM, although she is buried at Hendrix Cemetery in McNairy Co. His father's name was William R. Aday, who was from Arkansas. They were married 8 December 1859 in Saline Co, Arkansas, Marriage Book B, p. 211. The entry indicates that they were "married at the residence of Washington Ady", possibly his father. Just after the Civil War, Judia and her child, Wiley D. ADAY moved with her BAUCUM family back to McNairy Co, TN. There, Judia Aday (Ada) married Elijah W. Starks on 2 Dec 1866 (Marriage Book C., p. 256). Judia and Elijah had three daughters: Eliza Ann, M. A., and S. F. In the 1870 census, Wiley Ada appears with Judia and Elijah Starks and their daughters. Wiley's birthplace is listed as ARK, however, he is mis-identified as a STARKS rather than an "ADA". Wiley married Louarka (Fannie) Young, daughter of Johnson Young and wife Catherine of McNairy Co. In McNairy Co Guardian Bonds, p. 193, January 1885, Wiley Ady became the guardian of James Young, minor heir of Johnson Young, dec'd. James is Fannie's brother. Sureties for the guardianship include Wiley BAUCUM, Judia's brother. The Guardian Settlement is shown on p. 554, November 1885 in McNairy Co. Wiley Ada also shows up in the 1890 tax records in McNairy Co. The only child I'm aware of for Wiley Ada and Fannie Young is Acie Johnson Young (25 Aug 1878 - 11 Apr 1953), buried at Falcon Cemetery in McNairy Co. Acie's wife was Martha Lela Putnam and they married 30 Mar 1906 in McNairy Co (Book P, p. 295). I think that Acie Johnson Young was named for Wiley's grandfather Asa and for Fannie's father Johnson. (Because Wiley Ada left Arkansas as a baby, he likely did not know his father, but he did know his grandfather.) There are a couple of deed records in McNairy Co that involve Wiley Ada: Deed Book U, pp. 391-2, J. B. [Job] BAUCUM and Asa BAUCUM to Wiley Ady, 186 acres, 11 November 1891. (Job was a son of Asa by a subsequent wife, so Job was Judia's half-brother.) Deed Book U, pp. 535-6, Wiley Ady & Wife to Asa BAUCUM (Wiley's grandfather), 75 acres as a gift to Asa, 15 April 1892. My connection with all this: My great-grandfather was Judia's youngest brother, William Riley BAUCUM. The first ancestors that you and I share are Asa Abraham BAUCUM and Linnie ROGERS. They were my great-great grandparents and your great-great-great-grandparents. Asa Abraham BAUCUM (Abt 1807 NC - 5 Feb 1895) and Linnie Bell ROGERS (Abt 1807 NC - early 1863 ARK) started out in North Carolina and moved with their children to McNairy Co, TN about 1847. In the early 1850's (abt 1854 or so), they moved somewhere else, but I've never been able to find them until they moved to Saline Co. ARK, where Linnie later died (at about age 56). Asa and Linnie had the following children: 1. Eliza Jane (12 Aug 1829 NC - 2 Nov 1907 TX) m. 26 Dec 1847 in McNairy Co, TN to Daniel Anderson HILL (5 Jan 1825 TN - 28 Aug 1907 TX) 2. Sarah A. (abt 1830 NC - bef 1880) m. abt 1849-52, probably in Tennessee to (Unkn) McCLUNG (b. - d. before 1870) 3. Elender (abt 1832 NC - bef 1874) m. 1850 McNairy Co, TN to Aaron H. Case (1825 - 1856) 4. Clementine (abt 1834 NC) 5. Edmond (abt 1836 NC) 6. Thomas (abt 1837 NC) 7. Caroline (abt 1839 NC) 8. Betsey (abt 1840 NC) 9. JUDIA ANN (6 Jan 1840 NC - 3 Sep 1876 TN) m. 8 Dec 1859 in Saline Co, Arkansas to William R. ADAY m. 2 Dec 1866 in McNairy Co, Arkansas to Elijah W. STARKS 10. Wiley (1845 NC - 1897 OK) m. 21 Dec 1865 in McNairy Co, TN to Margaret Elizabeth BEARD 11. Rose Ann (abt 1847 TN - bef 1860) 12. Milas (abt 1848 TN - bef 1870) 13. Rebecca (abt 1851 - bef 1870) 14. William Riley (3 May 1853 TN - 5 Dec 1883 ARK) m. 20 November 1870 in McNairy Co, TN to Elizabeth Hamilton Pickens [Evans] (3 July 1840 TN - 30 Dec 1881 TN) (They are my great grandparents.) m. 26 Aug 1883 in Grant Co, Arkansas to Rachael Nelson There were quite a lot of Adays in Saline Co, Arkansas around 1850 and 1860. In Arkansas, they spelled the name ADAY. In Tennessee, I saw it spelled ADA or ADY most commonly. Joanne Baucum
