Allow me to further confuse the issues here. I am Steven A. Addy. Though I've spent most of my adult life in North Carolina, I'm officially part of the Michigan clan of the Addy family whose progenitors, Peter Addy and his son Pierre Joseph Addy migrated to the US from Switzerland in the mid-1800s.
As to the origins of the family name, thus far no explanation I've read seems satisfactory, given the numerous locations where the name has been identified. For consideration I'll offer that at the time of Julius Caesar, the "aedui" were a tribe of Gauls residing in what is now southeastern-central France. The Aedui are considered noteworthy (depending upon which side you were on) for having the sense to establish an allliance, at least part time, with the Roman Empire. Any information I have concerning the family origins is yours and any you have will be welcomed.
