Not to contradict Sandra, but the ADDY name has been in England a very long time. Its roots are impossible to pinpoint for sure. It could also be traced back to medieval France, where it's forms were de Addie or de Attie. So the ADDY name in England is not necisarrily German in origin- as the ADDY's from Germany are. Interestingly, the posting "an ADDY from Ghana", by Nii Antiaye Addy 6/22/98, is from another ADDY family who has been in Africa as far back as they can trace (1700's). To their knowledge, the name has no European influence, but is tribal in origin. --brant
