My grandfather, William E. Addington, married to Alwilda Green, lived on Steele's Fork, Southwestern Virginia. The two of them died in November 1918 of the Spanish Influenza, dying on the same day, and being buried in a common grave. Alwilda was 7 months pregnant at the time. They had six children: Vernie, Ernie, Jack, Emmett, Mary Ruth and Carmel (my father). All are deceased. I have one brother, James Gilbert Addington, who lives in Maryland. I now live in Washington state.

William E. Addington's father was Joseph - married a woman named Lawson. In addition to William, they had a son named Henry, who lived on Dry Fork in Wise County; a son named Wilson, who married Jane Green and they had four children: Herbert, Leonard, Pauline and Bruce. Also, possibly a daughter named Sarah, who married A.P. Carter of the Carter Family singers.

Joseph Addington (William's father) died in 1919.

This branch of the Addington family apparently had lived in southwest Virginia for many years. One story in the family is that the land they owned there was acquired as part of land grants given to Revolutionary War soldiers in lieu of pay. Don't know if there's any truth in that. I really don't know much more. If anyone has more info., I'd appreciate having it...
