Betty, This name is ADERHOLD. Your ancestor and--until recently--all persons bearing this name and its many variants (ADDERHOLD, ADDERHOLDT, ADDERHOLT, ADERHOLDT, ADERHOLT, ADEHOLT, ATHERHOLT, etc.) who lived in the American South descended from one immigrant, Friedrich Wilhelm ADERHOLD, who migrated from Prussia to York, PA, fought in the Revolutionary War, then moved to Lincoln Co, NC, where he died. Three of his four children (all sons) survived to adulthood and have many descendants. There is a book available (The ADERHOLD/T Collection, by William Bailey CASH of Denver, CO) which details this families known origins in Prussia and the various generations to the present. There are other known immigrants as well. I would be glad to assist anyone researching this name (my mother's maiden name) and/or to obtain a copy of the book. John Mallory Land -
