Kathryn: Thanks. Eleanor was the daughter of Leonard Hill (not Roy). According to a note from a researcher in Essex, Leonard Hill I's mother was Eleanor Roy, and that is likely who Eleanor was named for.

Mary, wife of Leonard was still alive when Leonard's will was made out. Leonard's first son was named Simson (Simpson)and not Linson. I had to search the old books and observe several years of the clerks' writing and the L's and S's are very similar (with the L's having a "long tail" and the S's don't). I have a copy of Leonard's will and it is very clear that the two first letters of the two sons, Simson and Leonard, are different. Down through the years it has been written Linson (including myself), but in one of the much later censuses in Granville Co. prior to Simpson moving to GA it was written Simpson. This is what I believe, and I have done a little research on this, but couldn't find anything definite -I believe Mary was a Simpson. There were many in the area at the time, and some of that family are still in this area. One of the earlier ones lived in Orange Co. (adjacent to southern Granville Co.) in the mid 1700's. Leonard Adcock lived in southwestern Granville Co. not 20 miles from the Orange Co. border (this part of Orange Co. is now Durham Co., but Durham Co. wasn't formed until years after that.)
A search in the Archives in the estate records of that family might give a clue if there are signed receipts. Prior to Simpson moving to GA, he lived very close to there also.
