Family Patriarch and longtime resident of Nevada County Charlie Adams passed away peacefully at home May 26, 2013, with family by his side.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, June 1, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City. A potluck reception will follow at Seaman?fs Lodge in Nevada City. All are invited to attend.
Charlie was born in Bradley, Okla., on Jan. 14, 1930. His family migrated west at an early age and after many stops along the way, landed in Nevada County. He spent his early years working in the lumber industry and then with the City of Nevada City, where he retired after 28 years of service. He married his wife, Yvonne, in 1952 and had four children. Charlie was a hard-working master of all trades. Many longtime residents of Nevada City will remember him lighting the town Christmas tree and keeping the small town in working order. He was a model of perseverance, dedication and fortitude. He raised his children to be self-sufficient and was an example of independence to all. Charlie was always there when needed and could always brighten a sad day. He loved life, his family and just sitting on the porch, enjoying company. Charlie was admired by many and loved by all. He was an avid outdoors man who loved to camp, fish and hunt.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; sister, Elizabeth; daughter, Rita Spillner; and sons, Raymond (Dee), Rickey (Chris) and Andy (Sherry) Adams; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all in the Nevada County area.
Charlie was preceded in death by parents Minnie and Grover; sisters Laney Robinson and Emlee Salyards; and brothers Andy and Joe. Charlie will be missed by all.
