See photo of original document dated 1784 on website http://www.familychest.co.uk/default.htm (use surname search). It concerns he following people: Mary CARTER of Thornborough, Buckinghamshire. Widow. Robert CARTER of Thornborough, Buckinghamshire. Gentleman (deceased) Joseph ADAMS of Thornborough, Buckinghamshire. Yeoman Richard ADAMS of Buckingham, Buckinghamshire. Blacksmith. John ADAMS of Thornburgh, Buckinghamshire. (deceased) The document begins by reciting an Indenture of 1762 in which John Adams borrowed £150 from Michael Parrott on a mortgage on property in Thornborough. In 1771, this mortgage (having been reduced to £100), was transferred to Robert Carter who later died leaving his wife Mary Carter as executrix. John Adams has also died leaving Joseph Adams as his eldest son and heir. Richard Adams is now buying the property for £200 from Joseph Adams of which £100 goes direct to Mary Carter to redeem the mortgage. The property consists of various parcels of land in the Open and Common fields of Thornborough. It is described as "containing by estimation one Half Yard Land be the same more or less". A "Yard Land" appears to be a term fairly local to this part of the country and is much the same as a Virgate (= about 30 acres). Notify Administrator about this message?
