Elijah Adams (1764-1814) & Abby (Adams) Coleman of Pittsylvania County, VA

There is a Pittsylvania County, VA marriage bond dated 5 Dec 1842 for Augustus D. Coleman and Abby Adams, who signed for herself (implying she was of legal age). It does not given her parentage. Surety for the bond was George T. Barber. Note: A printed abstract of Pittsylvania County marriage bonds by Mike Williams added the comment that Augustus D. Coleman was a son of William Coleman.

The 1850 census of Pittsylvania County, VA showed Augustus Coleman, age 36, farmer; Abby Coleman age 27; James Coleman age 7, and Moses Coleman age 4.

A GenForum message dated 22 Jan 2000 on the Coleman Forum reported that Augustus D. Coleman was born Sept 1813, died 15 April 1887, and had a son James Redmond Coleman. It also reported that the family lived in Pittsylvania County, VA.

Does anyone know the parentage of Abby Adams? I am trying to determine her lineage and would appreciate hearing from anyone about her Adams family. The name "Redmond" for her son's middle name makes me wonder if she was a granddaughter of Elijah Adams (1764-1814), perhaps by his son Edmund Adams whose family I have not been able to identify. (Elijah also had a son named Redmond Adams, but Abby apparently wasn't his daughter. I am a descendant of Redmond.)

Edmund Adams, one of eight identified children of Elijah Adams, was born in the 1790s and had a wife named Patsy whom he married prior to 21 Oct 1818 as shown in Pittsylvania County, Va Deed Book 22, p. 82. Edmund Adams is last listed in Pittsylvania County, VA census returns in the 1840 census (he is age 40-50) with 10 others in his household. A female age 30-40 probably was his wife Patsy, and the other 9 may be their children. Who were the children? Was Abby Adams, later (in 1842) the wife of Augustus D. Coleman, one of them?

The last I can trace Edmund Adams was his involvement in a Pittsylvania County, VA court case in 1848 (Pittsylvania Co., VA Court Record Book 39 pp. 286 & 400; and Book 40 p. 26). It appears that sometime after June 1848 and mid-1850 when the census was taken, Edmund Adams either died in Pittsylvania County, VA or moved elsewhere. Any ideas on what happened to him or his family? Thanks for anyone's help!
