Leslie Adams of KY or WV
I am interested in tracing my Adams ancestors. My Father (Floyd Leslie Adams) was orphaned in Huntington WV in about 1925. He and his older sister, Gertrude, were sent by my grandfather's second wife to the Junior Order of U.A.M. home in Tiffin, OH. His father, my grandfather, was Leslie Adams. Leslie had a sister, Virginia, who remained in the area where they were raised, near Kermit WV but on the KY side of the Big Sandy River. My grandfather was a master carpenter and carpenter's union organizer. He had lived and worked in Rock Island, IL and married my grandmother (also named Gertrude = maiden name Simon). She died of the Swine Flu in about 1918 or 19, and my grandfather moved to Huntington WV to seek work. He took his two children there and later remarried a woman named Winnie. My grandfather is buried in Huntington and I intend to find the grave to take photos and note the dates. I know my Adams ancestors were hill folks because as a child we visited Aunt "Virgie" many times and had to walk a mile up a hollow to reach their house. They didn't get electricity until the late 1950s. All I know in addition to what I have written here is that my grandfather was in the US Army before the first world war and was stationed in the medical corps near San Antonio TX. I have a photograph of his entire unit. If anyone can steer me in the right direction toward finding any more information about the family, please let me know. My name is Jon Leslie Adams and I live in Tiffin, OH.
