Greetings, David...
ADAMS:My line of descent is through Rebecca ADAMS & John Waldo. (SEE: Excerpt from Timothy Hopkins book, attached below).
I checked thename index of ''JOHN HOPKINS OF CAMBRIDGE, MA, 1634 AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS'' by Timothy HOPKINS, and did not see a listing for General Alonzo W. Adams. This does not mean that Alonzo W. Adams is not in some way connected to this Adams line; it simply means that this specific book does not contain the type of in-depth data to know one way or another.
SUGGESTION:
If you or anyone you know has a subscription to Ancestry.com (or, if your local library subscribes to this genealogy service, which many libraries do), you can research the military history of General Alonzo Adams (online) via their Civil War records.I would suspect that there would be a substantial amount of information about him, given his military rank.
In addition, this databank will also include 'general' links which will provide expanded historical data regarding each battle that General Alonzo Adams participated in, led, etc. It's a wonderful resource for researching the military history of particular individuals.(i.e., For example, we were able to pinpoint the exact location, battle & day that my husband's great grandfather, William Sayles, was severely wounded during his Civil War duty. This, combined with oral & written family history that had been handed down through the generations-- some of which was included in William's obituary decades later, filled in many gaps & painted a vivid picture of his Civil War experiences).
If General Alonzo W. Adams was married, you might also want to check to see if he, his wife, or offspring applied for a pension based upon his military service. The pension record (which you can order), may provide a wealth of information.
I wish you well in your research, and current endeavor. If I come across information about General Alonzo Adams that may be useful, I will gladly pass it along to you.
And, I look forward to reading"The Summer of 1787: The Men Who Invented the Constitution."
:-)
Take care, and
May God bless you and those you love...
