This note is to offer another possibility relative to John Adams and whether he was "John Simon."
You will note that my comments stated that John Adams petitioned in 1776 to form Caswell Co., NC, which occurred in 1777. I posted this note: "North Carolina Taxpayers, 1701-1786, listed the following from Caswell Co., NC for 1777:Daniel, John, and William. All three of the latter were in Orange Co., NC for the 1755 census, plus a George Adams."
The 1790 census of Caswell Co., NC lists a John Adams in the on-line index, but the film for him is N/A. Since Simon was not listed in 1790, but was in 1800 & 1810, it seems reasonable that John Adams died between 1790 & 1800 (unless there is another John) was really born before 1755-21 yrs = 1734. Simon would likely have the son who inherited the property. It is still most likely that he was the one who married Elizabeth (Thompson) mother of Reuben & Susan).
It is my belief that the John as discussed previously was son of Gabriel and Priscilla Pearson: John Adams, b Bet-1715-1727, who m Susannah (Wood) b bet 1727-1729. Children were listed John B abt 1741, George, Jeremiah, Daniel, Josua, Silvester, Samuel b 1752.The very same ancestry.com records I notice say that they were married in 1755, which means that John b 1741 was older, born after 1755.So, either that John b aft 1755 was our Simon Adams in Caswell Co.,or there could be another child Simon born after Samuel in 1752.If the latter is true, then Simon would have been great grandson of Gabriel Adams.
I located a John II Adams b1730 Church Hill, Fairfax VA, who m Susan Wood b 1735. John was a Rev War private d after 1782 that was said to be the son of Gabriel b ca 1693 & Priscilla Pearson. These 14 child of John II Adams have names identical to those of what I recorded above for John & Susannah, but these 14 children were born 1756 to 1781 (average 20 years later)&no "John" as a child which would be unusual. I will continue to try to reconcile these two John's.
(I had a similar problem in a Walker group; the father, son and grandson were each given son's wife name, to the father and to the son.We now seem to have the 3rd Susan Wood - appears that some researchers did a lot of guessing.)
I believe that where I am now is to think Simon was a son of one of the John Adams who m a Susan Wood.Since John in 1776 in Orange Co., NC appeared to have been there in 1755 with two of his brothers Daniel and William, he could not be the Simon in Caswell Co., NC In 1800 & 1810, but would have been a son of the John that was in Orange Co., in 1776.
Sorry to repeat, just want to know that I am making sense, at least to myself. Can anyone help with deeds and court records in Caswell Co? Anne Tunnell or Meredith Adams?
I located another Phillip Adams, who appears to be son, not named, of one of the earlier John's who m a Susan Wood.
