Hi Loren:
Thanks for your response. I saw the baptism records for this family and the confusion is whether Mary is Mary Gover. It would be so simple if she was!!
The doubts come when reading the one line register entry:
The first three of this families baptisms read as follows:
Adams, (name of child & "d" or "s" ), Richard & Mary of St. Pancras, Exon, and date. The question is whether St. Pancras refers to both Richard & Mary. If she is Mary Grover she was born in Crediton. I am not sure where Richard was born but it is possible it was Exeter if Exon is short for Exeter, Devon.
The next problem comes with the baptism of William. It reads:Adams, William s. Richard & MaryG. Bent, Aug 26, 1793. Is there any reason for G. Bent to be there other than it was her maiden name? It has been suggested that someone else ie: G. Bent registered the birth and I did see that a George Bent was a doctor in Crediton.
I have reordered the FHL film to re-check whether a G. Bent is included in any other baptism or whether maiden names were included. In the other Adams I looked at there were no maiden names mentioned so we will see.
Any suggestions would be appreciated and if you have any requests for Canadian information especially in Manitoba let me know.
Thanks
Joyce
