Well, that is a new story to me. I have heard several versions of Sir Robert Fitzgerald de Adare but all seem to involve his slewing his advisary, the White Knight, in a duel and then escaping from Ireland to Scotland. Since the Fitzgeralds are still very much around, I suggest that perhaps it might be a bit more accurate. I did read somewhere that the Earls of Desmond (the Fitzgeralds) fell in displeasure with the crown and lost their title. Some were beheaded. This was after our Robert Adair had left and changed his name to simply Adair.
