Of interest is the note book / account book of Rev. Andrew Rowan, Dunaghy, co Antrim, Ireland, 1672-1680. He was appointed Rector 1661 and died 1717. He may be noted in Adair files D929/HA12/F4/1/19. 30 June 1638. Note addressed to Rev. Andrew Rowan at the Clogh (Clough / Oldstone) containing news from London concerning trial of bishops. (My ancestor was Bishop Archibald Adair). There may have been a Houston "Ruling Elder" of Clough Church who signed a "Boyd" petition c.1717-1718 about America, who may have been related to these Adairs. ....................................................... 27 March 1751 at a Council meeting held in New Bern, petitions for Warrants of Land were read, viz : The following Persons, on Motion were Admitted to prove their own and others Rights,(some were) : Johnston Griggers per Wm Carruthers, 7 Blacks, Beauft ; Richard Allen per Jno Dickson, 1 White, Duplin ; James Adair, 5 Whites 8 Blacks, Johnston. ...................................................... 29 March 1751 at a Council meeting held in New Bern, petitions were read for Warrants for Land and granted, viz : James Adair, for 400 acres in Johnston, George Rennick, 350 Anson, William Faris, 250 N Hanr, Thomas Johns, 420 Duplin, Richard Miller, 400 Duplin, John Simpson, 200 Duplin. ....................................................... 30 March 1751 Mathew ROWAN was a Member of Council, New Bern before his Excellency the Governor. Mr. Rowan’s father or g-father may have been Rev. Andrew Rowan from Clogh / Clough / Old Stone, Parish of Dunaghy, co Antrim, N. Ireland. The Houston family in America were said to be from Dunaghy. Did any Houstons and Adairs from / near Dunaghy emigrate with any of the Rowan family ? Notify Administrator about this message?
