Joseph Calvert, was the father of James Logan Colbert of the Chickasaws,
bc.1722 on Plumtree Island in the Roanoke River and near the border of VA and NC.
James Logan Colbert's mother was Amy Beeson who had married :
1stly to Francis Vernon, 2ndly toJoseph Calvert, 3rdly to Phillip Smith, 4thly to Mr. Catlin.
James Logan Colbert was indentured to Abraham Colson (a reg. Chickasaw trader)
to be a tanner and Indian trader.Abraham Colson’s bro, Joseph Colson, lived on Plumtree Island and bought land on the island the same day as Joseph Calvert.
In 1736 Abraham Colson,William Turbeville, GIDEON GIBSON,
and the Mulkey family (all related by marriage) moved to Sandy Bluff, S.C.
Gideon Gibson was also a Chickasaw Indian trader. Before moving to Sandy Bluff he lived on land near Plumtree Island on land he bought from ROBERT LONG Lang/Longo who lived on Plumtree Island.Robert Long was a descendant of Anthony Longo of Accomack County, VA. and lived there the same time as Christopher Calvert.
(The Colson's also lived in Accomack County, VA during the mid-1600's).
Were they any Adairs who lived near Plumtree Island ?
In 1750 James Logan Colbert, James ADAIR, Abraham Colson, and Johathan Mulkey all bought land in Bladen County, NC (now Robeson County) on the same day. However, in 1745 Colson had been scalped by Indians and never recovered from his injuries and died in 1750.
