I have learned from painful experience to read unsourced books with a jaundiced eye. I have seen no solid evidence for Thomas Adair, father of James, Joseph and William. He may have existed, but he certainly did not travel to South Carolina with his sons (at least to what is now Laurens Co.). Further, James Robert Adair was not a brother of Joseph Adair of Laurens Co., although it is possible that they were distantly related. The James Adair, Sr. of Laurens Co., probable brother of Joseph, is an entirely different individual.
