On visit to PRONI in Sept/Oct, I saw many of the
Adair papers.
Benjamin Adair IS NOT the father of either Jesse Adair
or Amelia Sophia who married her cousin Thomas Benjamin
(b. 1776, d. 29.6.1855).
The reason why many pedigrees list for the marriage of
Benjamin Adair and Ann Crymble 5 other sons and 3 daughters
is really very sad -- all these children died shortly
after birth or in infancy. All were named except one son
who died just over a year after birth. This information
comes from PRONI MIC/553/Reel 6 (beginning on p. 364 of
this reel). The record is a handwritten transcription from
old papers found in an old prayer book -- likely Benjamin
Adair's.
For those interested in the Adair and Crymble histories,
there are at least two Waterhouse Crymble's -- both married.
I saw Waterhouse Crymble's will (but unfortunately did not
read all the details) which was granted probate on 14 March
1763. However, the formal probate document has the following:
"Edward Crymble Esquire the natural and lawful Brother
and next of kin of Waterhouse Crymble late a Lieutenant in
the Forty eighth Regiment of Foot a Bachelor deceased"
which may raise some questions. Was their a 3rd
Waterhouse Crymble?
