Road to Awakening (http://www.roadtoawakening.com) is a fictional book but the author spent summer vacations in San Saba, Texas in the 1950s/1960s.
The 1950s/1960s marked a period of great political, cultural and social change in the United States. The fight for racial equality proved to be a considerable challenge for many citizens, black and white alike. In her new novel, Road to Awakening, author Nancy Adair Weatherspoon, pulls from her own experiences to explore the collision between these two cultures.
Road to Awakening chronicles the changes that transform a small Southern town after two young girls awaken the possibilities of integration. The residents of Mossville, TX find themselves suddenly divided into two hostile camps, as their beliefs pit them against each other and turn the peaceful town into a caldron of fear and hate. Weatherspoon weaves into her story a strong historical foundation, a gentle yet unexpected family story and a memorable cast of characters that transport the reader back to the summers of the 1950s.
