A1 JAMES ADAIR
Married to Annabella, daughter of Allen Blair. He was described as a Captain in the Navy, presumably in the Royal Marines.

A2 BENJAMIN ADAIR b. 1/1/1655
Benjamin Adair was the eldest son of James and Annabella (see A1), and had two brothers, Alexander and Thomas. He married Anna, daughter of Waterhouse Crymble of Ballygelloch, born 14/6/1675 – died 23/12/1713. They had 10 children of which 8 died in infancy. Surviving children were a daughter, Elizabeth b. 1690, who married John Agnew of Derra on 21/11/1710, and a son Benjamin, born 1705 (see A3).

A3 THOMAS BENJAMIN ADAIR b 15/1/1705 – d. 1/9/1768
Thomas Benjamin Adair married Eleanor, daughter of Crymble of Clements Hill and they had three sons, Benjamin (A4), Charles and William Robert. Charles Adair (b. 17/10/1810) married Millicent, daughter of Henry Ellis of Prospect, C.Garrick (b. 6/11/1740 – d. 1826). They had 2 sons, Thomas Benjamin Adair (b. 1776 – d. 1856), and Henry Adair (b.1781 – d. 1847). Thomas Benjamin Adair married his cousin Amelia Sophia Leonora Adair, daughter of Lieut. Col. Adair R.M., and they had 9 children, 5 sons – Charles (b. 1807 – d. 1860), Henry (b. 1810), Benjamin Clements, Thomas Benjamin, William Robert, and 4 daughters, Millicent, Susan, Amelia and Eleanor Margaret, who married Rev. James Hunt of Thaseragh. Henry Adair had no issue. William Robert Adair, the brother of Charles and Benjamin (A4) married Roseanna, daughter of Thompson of Muckamore Abbey and had 8 children. The four sons were Charles, John, William and Thomas Benjamin, who married Louisa, daughter of Tennaris of Battismore, whose children were William Robert Adair, Henry Adair and Louisa Adair. The four daughters of William and Roseanna were Elizabeth, Roseanna, who married Henry Hunt of Ahaseragh, C. Galway, Margaret and Ellen Maria.

A4 BENJAMIN ADAIR
Benjamin Adair was a Lieutenant Colonel, Royal Marines who married Susannah, the sister of Admiral Prouse. They had 7 children, 3 sons and 4 daughters. One of the sons was Charles William Adair, who was Captain of the Marines on board HMS Victory at Trafalgar. He was killed just before Nelson in the battle. He had been married to Ann, daughter of Waldron.

The second son was William Robert Adair who was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy and killed in ‘Sirius’ in action off Tiber in 1806. The third son was Thomas Benjamin (see A5). The daughters were Maria, Amelia Sophia Leonora who married J.B. Adair of Loughanmore, her cousin (see A3), Ann who married Mitchell of Bodmin, died 1863, and Elizabeth who died 1852.

A5 THOMAS BENJAMIN ADAIR d. 1849
Thomas Benjamin Adair was a Major General of Royal Marines, C.B.who died 1849. He served in ‘Alexander’ at the Nile. He was married to Sarah, the daughter of Bratton of Shrewsbury. They had 6 children, 3 sons and 3 daughters. The sons were Richard Bratton Adair, a Captain of Royal Artillery, who died in 1863. He had been married to Sophia, daughter of Steward. The second son Charles William Adair b. 1822, who was a General of Royal Marines, K.C.B. In 1849 he married Isabella, daughter of Col. Aslett R.M. d. 1900, and they had 6 children, 4 sons and 2 daughters. They are William Thompson Adair, who married (1) Rose, the daughter of Naylor, d. 1904, and (2) Angela, daughter of Plorres., Charles Henry Adair who married Annette ……whose children were Charles ….. The third son of Charles William Adair and Isabella was Thomas Benjamin Adair, and the fourth son was Hugh Robert Adair, who married Sibyl, daughter of Cayzer. The daughters were Isabella and Florence Mary Adair who married Samuel Allan of Lisconnan. The third son of Thomas Benjamin Adair (A5) and Sarah, was Henry Adair who married Eliza of Naylor. They had 3 sons, Benjamin, who married Jean, whose children were Elizabeth and Robin Adair. Henry Adair and Charles Osborn Adair. The daughters were Sarah Susanna, Amelia and Ann Marie (see A6).

A6 ANN MARIA ADAIR
Ann Maria Adair was the daughter of Thomas Banjamin and Sarah Adair. In 1837 she married Harry Tracey of Dartmouth (see T17, Tracey section).

It is clear that the Adair and Tracey families became fairly close with the marriage of Ann Maria and Harry Tracey (see above).

SR - are you related to this family, or is your interest purely historical. You are probably aware that most of the family are buried at the parish church at Donegore, ajacent to the Loughanmore. The churchyard has 2 enclosed burial areas, both with Adair coats of arms. One is headed 'The burial place of the Adair family' and the second 'The ancient burial place of the Adair family'.But you probably know all this. Brian
