I've also found a posting by a joan duke (on web site http://awt.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin.cgi?op=GET&db) ID 12743 re William LAW born North Ireland, died 1786 in Law Swamp, Near Kingstree SC, which comprises COMMENT FROM BOOK, "WILLIAM & JANE LAW and Some of Their Descendants," Lib of Congress No. Tx 1-583-619. An extract from the posting is quoted below. "The 'William & Jane Law book' The William & Jane and family arrived in Charleston South Carolina in late 1763-1764 on a 'Bounty ship called "PRINCE HENRY".' The bounty ship got a land grant paid to the owner or Captain of the ship for their transportation to America. ... "Following is the first known account we have of William and Jane Law in America and is reported as it is written in The Council Journal or the Legislative Journal of Colonial South Carolina. The Journal were originally in the Colonial Capitol in Charleston and are now housed in the South Carolina Department of Archives and History in Columbia. This account appears in Journal 30 on pages 20-31. "SOUTH CAROLINA IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS 25th January 1764. Present His excellency the Governor, For His Honor the Lord Governor. The Hon. Orville Beale, Henry Middleton and John Guararde. The following petitioners for warrants of survey of lands on the bounty were presented and read. "Read also the Petitions of: Anne Barr Robert McConnel Joseph Barr Rachael McConnel Hugh Barr Jane Law Jane Barr Robert Law Margaret McConnel George Law Isaiah Law John Almond Jane Law James Adair Elizabeth Kennedy William Law Robert Kennedy James Almond "Setting forth that they also were Irish Protestants and lately arrived on the encouragement of the bounty therefore humble praying the same may be allowed them but it appearing that they had not paid for their passages..." It appears that this posting was mainly about the LAW family, and that their tract of land was in CRAVEN COUNTY. Notify Administrator about this message?
