This William Adair was my great great grandfather. I have the following info from a memoir written by my mother, Helen Marietta Wilson, entitled, "Moore Genealogy."

William Adair was born in Chester, South Carolina, August 23, 1781, his parents came from North Ireland. He was a soldier in the War of 1812 under General Jackson. Soon after the war he came to Perry Co., Ill., where he married a daughter of James Brown who died a few years later, leaving him with a son and a daughter.... On Jan 8, 1835 Wm. Adair married John Lacy's wido (Rebecca Taggart) Lacy and settled on the Lacy farm which afterwards was known as the Major Adair farm. To this union were born 2 children (twins) William Adair and Mary Jane Adair on Jan 6, 1837. They were members of the Old Union United Presbyterian Church. Wm. Adair was Major of his Regiment in the Black Hawk War of 1831 and 1832. He was appointed receiver of the land office until his death Nov. 19, 1856, buried in the Old Bethel Cemetery S.E. of Sparta.
