Bess Antes shared some of the Bankston Adair conversation with me that has been posted on this forum. I did not add Ann Adair or O Dare to my files because of lack of documentation - so I am trying to familarize myself with her connection: was she married to James Bankson or to Andrew? Andrew... the son of Lawrence b. 1704? Bess shared a cc of the deposition with me - she is to be applauded for discovering it. I have a couple of questions:

1.) Does Andrew's involvement as a Tory (if this is the case) suggest that Peter was also involved as a Tory? (Peter was my ancestor via Lawrence b. 1754).

This is surprising in light of father Lawrence's involvement in the Cresap Border Dispute in Maryland with his father-in-law, Johannes Hendricks.

The deposition says that he went behind British lines. I raise the question - not because I know anything!- but because I have also heard that preceding and following the WAr - the locals were driving out Quakers and trying to obtain land that was not homesteaded. They did this by calling them Tories. If they were charged to be Tories, the government could take the land.

2.) I don't think that Rachel Bankson's family arrived by ship... they migrated from PA to NC - unless you are aware of something I dont know.

3.) Does anyone have a clue which James Lea gave the deposition? It was clearly not James Lea (Country Line); The only other James Lee/Lea in Caswell county that fits the description of being married for 47 years was James (Kilgore's Branch) Lea, a cousin of the other James. The deposition was taken in the home of Gabriel Lea (son of the James of Kilgore's Branch.) The death date for the second J of K's does not fit...but so many people have confused the two cousins Lea that I cannot find real documentation.

4.) The connection between the Adairs and the Bankstons comes from this marriage between Rachel and an Adair?

Thanks for humoring me with this long discourse!

Blessings, C Forde
