The assertions in J. B. Adair's book regarding the early SC Adair families are suspect in several ways. For example, I have seen no documentation for the kinship of William Adair of Chester Co. with his alleged brothers James and Joseph of Laurens Co. Further, Mildred Browlee has made a very persuasive case based on land sales records, probate data, etc. that a James Adair (wife Eleanor) is the likely brother of Joseph Sr. and not obviously, James Adair the Indian Trader. This James is also the likely father of James Adair, wife Hanna (Netherton?). This is contrary to the early lineages set forth in J. B. Adair's book which contains little or no documentation. But I agree that J.B. Adair probably had _some_ reason for his early lineages. I wonder what happened to the data he must have had when he wrote the book.
