Here is more food for thought concerning Jane Adair Brooks:

Jane Adair Brooks was my great-grandmother, born 4 July 1827 in Georgia, possibly in Henry County. She married John L. Brooks on 26 Dec 1841 in Paulding County, Georgia. She died 8 July 1887 at Somerset, Bexar or Atascosa County, Texas.

I need proof of her parentage. Current genealogies usually list her as a daughter of Whitmill Harrington Adair and Sarah "Sally" Sorrells. Until a couple of years ago I have had no reason to doubt this. However, recent discoveries indicate she may have been a daughter of James T. Adair b. 8 Jun 1790 and wife Ann Smith. James T. Adair died 22 March 1851 in Henry County, Georgia. His two known sons -- John Smith Adair and Andrew Jackson Adair -- went to Mississippi.

(Important note here: John Smith Adair who married Mary Ann Heslep is also claimed by some genealogies as a member of the Whitmill Harrington Adair family.)

Some years after John and Jane Adair Brooks married, they traveled to Mississippi -- then to Texas -- first settling in Upshur County, Texas, then finally in Atascosa County. These travels closely parallel the travels of the two known sons of James T. Adair.

Among my father's personal items when he died was a photograph of five young people, identified as "Jim and Ed and Pearl Adair and Fannie and Blanch Brooks." The first 3 individuals in this photograph were James William Adair, Edward Lee Adair, and Margaret Pearl Adair -- children of Andrew Jackson Adair, son of James T. Adair. Fannie Brooks was probably my grandfather's younger sister, Sarah Frances Brooks. Blanch Brooks was a niece.

Family Bible records in the possession of a descendant of Andrew Jackson Adair make note of Jane (Adair) Brooks, a sister.

If any persons have any thoughts or insights or information that might help clear up this mystery, I would enjoy hearing from them. Thanks!
