Story of Adair

I wonder if anyone else has heard this story of where Adair originated? The story goes like this: Robert Fitzgerald de Adare (meaning Robert from Adare, Ireland) killed a fellow knight and fled to Scotland and there changed his name to Robert Adare(Adair), this is where I believe the name started. Now the Fitzgerald line descends from royalty in all of Europe. Does anyone else know this story? I acquired it during my studies, dont quite remember the source. But I know I have a source stated in my research somewhere.
