Yes and no. My take is that he couldn't prove or disprove, and thus repeats JB Adair's work. However, on p. 1227, he states "Lack of supporting information renders questionable the assumption that James, Joseph and William were brothers and that they were sons of Thos. Adair". He also goes on to repeat family histories citing his Scotch ancestry.(p. 1241 for ex.)

JB Adair's work was very good for 1924, and a lot of it seems to have held up. But, other histories do have questions about the connection of James Robert Adair to Thos. Adair of Ireland.
