Adair/Wallace Jackson Co. Ga., deed
Thought this would be of interest to some. I was at the Ga. Department of Archives in Atlanta and found this book, "Jackson Co. Ga. Deed Abstracts, Books A-D 1796-1808" Abstracted by Faye Stone Poss.
Deed Book C, Jackson Co. Ga. pages 268-269 "(Power of Attorney) Mar. 28,1802, Jackson County. We, BENJAMIN ADAIR, BARTHOLOMEW WALLACE, JOSEPH ADAIR, THOMAS GRUBBS, heirs of SARAH WALLACE of the State and County aforesaid, with good causes and consideration, have made, ordained, constituted, and appointed my trusty and well beloved friend WILLIAM SMITH of said County, my true and lawful Attorney for me and in my name and to me ask, demand, recover, sue, for and receive of and from WILLIAM DAVIS of BURKE COUNTY, Ga. 100 acres of land in Burke County, which said land was bequeathed to us by our GRANDMOTHER, SARAH WALLACE, now resident of Jackson County. Signed. Benjamin Adair, Bartholomew Wallace, Joseph Adair, Thomas Grubbs. Witness: Obadiah Edwards, Nathan Fowler ... before Presley Scurlock J.P. Recorded 28 July 1802.
My line of Adairs is through Bozeman and his father William and ran across this while I was looking for deeds for my Adairs. I plan to go back to the archives in Atlanta and get the original. Has anyone out there seen this before? I was under the impression that the Joseph Adair in Jackson Co. was the son of John Adair, son of Joseph Adair Jr. that married Sarah Dillard and was in Laurens Dist. South Carolina. Could Sarah have married a Wallace after Joseph died. Does anyone know anything about this?
