Karen,
This is not a branch of the family that I know a lot about, in fact I cannot match to the children of Preston Brooks that you posted, but maybe I can give you some information that will help your search, and you can help me fill my info in.
Preston Brooks Adair was about 1857 in DeKalb Co., AL.The Adair History by James Barrnet Adair has his wife as Alice Harmon, but honestly he has this branch pretty messed up and I don't put much stock it that.Preston was the son of John K. Adair who was the son of James and Sarah Sharp Adair.I descend from John's sister Mary Isabel.
Briefly, John K.(likely Kilgore after his grandmother, but I haven't proven this, was born Dec. 2, 1828 in Pickens Co., SC.In the 1830's his family moved briefly to TN then before 1840 to DeKalb Co., AL.His father died in 1850.John was living in Searcy Co., AR in 1860, but was in the Fulton/Sharp Co., AR area by 1870 where his mother had moved about 1867.In 1878 she applied for bounty land for her husbands service in the War of 1812, and John K. helped her.In the papers John K. names her has his mother and James as his father.Sarah Sharp Adair died Nov.3, 1884 in Sharp Co., AR.By 1880 John K, had moved to Washington Co., AR where his wife Martha died in October 1880.In 1881 John married a Phoebe Jane and he died in Dec. 1894 in Washington Co., AR and is buried in the Round Mountain Cemetery, near Fayetteville, AR.
The little I have on Preston is that he attended the University of Arkansas in 1878-1880; in 1880 he was in charge of the schools in Richmond Township in Sharp Co., AR.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Larry
