There is a huge puzzle regarding
Richard Edgar/Edzear (however spelt)
which I feel sure one of our Adairs
could sort out.
In "Scot's Peerage" page 53,
"Crichton, Lord Crichton":
"From a charter by King Robert I. to RICHARD EDGAR, also supposed to be dated circa 1320 (#27 Great Seal of Scotland 1306-1424)
of the manor place and one-half of the barony of Sanchar, it appears that the other half of the barony pertained to William de Crechton and Isabella, his wife, as heirs-portioners with RICHARD EDGAR of the said barony.
This lady is generally said to have been one of the two daughters of the last Ros or de Ros (Ross) of Sanquhar, while the family of Edgar claim descent from her elder sister."
The Ros referred to above may be 5th Earl of Ross, but this needs to be checked.
Perhaps this also could be checked:
King William "the Lion" of Scotland b.1143,
father of King Alex II of Scotland,
had a dau. who m. Robert de ROS.
This Robert de ROS and his wife had
a son William who m. Lucia FitzPiers.
In "Scot's Peerage",
"Crichton, Earl of Dumphries":
William Crichton....... was the first of his family to possess the lands of Sanquhar, from which his successors afterwards took the title of Lord Sanquhar.
However, he only held the half of the whole barony, which was divided between him and Richard Edgar, the latter getting also the chief messuage of the lands, as the husband of the elder of two heiresses, while Crichton married the younger.
His half of the barony was valued at the then considerable sum of one hundred merks yearly, as appears from an Exchequer account of King Edward III. in 1335, when it was forfeited owing to Crichton adhering to the patriotic party in Scotland, but the land brought no revenue to the English king, as it was waste.
William Crichton, of whom nothing more is recorded married a lady named Isabella Her surname is said to have been Ross, but her identity has not been certainly discovered."
Would Isabella above be Isobelle de Atholia.
Would she be dau. of 5th Earl of Ross ?
Lindsay = Earl of Crawford ?
King Robert Bruce I of Scotland
m. 1stly 1296 to Isobel of MAR
m. 2ndly 1302 Elizabeth (Isabella) de Burgh.
(Wonder if this Elizabeth de Burgh was widowed and then married Fitzgerald ?)
On page 279
"Dunbar, Earl of Dunbar"
there appears a note:
On Aug. 1395 Pope Benedict XIII. (Antipope) ordered a dispensation to be granted to David, Earl of Carrick (afterwards Duke of Rothesay), firstborn of Robert, King of Scotland, and Elizabeth daughter of George, Earl of March, who, knowing themselves to be in the third degree of consanguinity had contracted espousals per verba de futuro, the King's consent being first obtained.
On 11 March 1396-97 a commission was issued by the same Pope to grant dispensation to the same persons, who had married without banns.
This seems to show that the prince and Elizabeth Dunbar were married, and not only betrothed.
The insult to the Earl of March and his family by the Prince's repudiation of Elizabeth was thus much greater than has hitherto been stated."

"Dunbar, Earl of Dunbar."
Janet Dunbar, grand-dau. of Patrick Dunbar, (of Mochrum, and 6th of Kilconquhar & his wife Margaret Gordon) married William Adair (about mid 1500's) in Altoun, Scotland.
Janet Adair (nee Dunbar), with her 3 sisters, was co-heiress of her brother, Andrew Dunbar who died before February 1564 (see Reg. of Deeds viii.30).
William and Janet Adair had daughter Christian. Janet Adair died before September 1566 (Reg. of Deeds ix.404).
